THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

Shirley Green Marvin

July 2, 1922 – October 8, 2022

“The purpose of the Louisiana Women’s Conference is to give Louisiana women from all walks of life and all parts of the state an opportunity to become better informed about policies and issues that affect their lives, to identify areas of concern to them and to explore and propose solutions.” – April 1977

Helped found the Baton Rouge chapter of the National Women’s Political Caucus and served in numerous leadership capacities, including VP of the local and state caucus and national secretary. Co-chaired the 1977 IWY conference committee for LA. Involved in early Consciousness Raising in NOW and worked on the ERA, lobbying a highly resistant LA Legislature. Organized the Women’s Pavilion in 1984 in New Orleans as part of the World’s Fair.
