THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

Shana Alexander

October 6, 1925 – June 23, 2005

“I am not a full-fledged feminist on any issue save one—abortion. Women had the vote for over 50 years without really using it, without understanding its power. Through abortion reform they begin to understand.”

Journalist, author and television personality. The first woman staff writer and columnist for Life magazine. The first woman editor at McCall’s. Best known as the liberal sparring partner of the conservative commentator James J. Kilpatrick on the television newsmagazine “60 Minutes” in the 1970’s.
