Selma Miriam

“I had always been interested in cooking unusual foods, ethnic foods, in particular. We decided to have food that was representative of a lot of different peoples from a lot of different lands. We believed that would be one aspect of making this food feminist.”
Co-founder of Bloodroot Vegetarian Restaurant and Feminist Bookstore, 1977. Bloodroot became a gathering place for feminist luminaries, including Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, Mary Daly, and Andrea Dworkin. A dedicated advocate for social justice. Spearheaded Project Concern, an anti-racism busing initiative. Active in the League of Women Voters and helped establish the local chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW).
