Rosalie Silber Abrams

June 2, 1916 – February 27, 2009

“We joined the March on Washington for Women’s Rights. It was a hot, ninety-eight-degree day, but we were right up-front marching for equal rights.”

Member of the Maryland House of Delegates, 1967–70 and Maryland State Senate 1970-84. First female and Jewish majority leader of the state Senate 1978–82. Nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War ll. The first woman in Maryland to hold the position of Senate Finance Committee chair, and the first woman chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. A member of the Commission to Study the Equal Rights Amendment and the Maryland Commission for Women.
