THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

Mary Catherine Kilday

July 26, 1933 – February 24, 1999

“We didn’t know about employment complaints, the EEOC or any of that technical stuff, but we wanted to let station management know we were not satisfied with our low paying, no responsibility jobs.”

TV Producer, Lawyer. Worked for NBC. Producer, Washington affiliate’s television program, “A Woman Is,” 1955 – 1977. Leader of an effort that included more than half of the women employed at WRC-TV. Filed formal complaints of race and sex discrimination with the Federal Communications Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance, 1971. Lawyer, Federal Communications Commission, Bureau of Enforcement, 1978 – 1993. Active in breast cancer education. Graduated from Trinity College, 1955. Law degree, George Washington University.
