Martha Wren Gaines
May 20, 1939 – November 29, 1987

A co-founder of the Atlanta chapter of NOW in 1968, serving as president, state coordinator and Southern regional director. Served as president of the Georgia chapter of the Abortion Rights Action League. Actively involved in the Girl Scouts Northwest Georgia Council, the YWCA of Greater Atlanta, ERA Georgia and the DeKalb County NAACP. Served as president of the Colony Square Business and Professional Women’s Club, and president of the Georgia affiliation of the ACLU.
