Formerly the Graduate Director at the Department of Classics, University of Maryland with research focus on women, the family and sexuality in ancient Greece and Rome, particularly in Latin literature. Expert on classical education and reception in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A founder of the Women’s Classical Caucus. Wellesley College, BA, 1966. Harvard University, PhD, 1971.
