VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT: JOAN BRAVERMAN PINCKveteranfeminists2025-07-21T09:05:18-04:00

THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

Joan Braverman Pinck

February 1929 – March 10, 2018

“Most women who work, married or not, live two lives, one professional and one domestic. They learn to switch back and forth, to shift gears with great deftness, to turn off one side of themselves, and to turn on another almost effortlessly and nearly always imperceptibly, as the occasion requires.” – Joan Braverman Pinck, 1975

A strong advocate for women’s rights and equal opportunity. A leader of the Planned Parenthood League of MA and the Women’s Equity Action League. Former lecturer and assistant dean at Harvard Business School. One of the first woman administrators at Harvard Business School, where she also taught a course on business writing. Served as director of research administration and policy at Beth Israel Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Served as assistant secretary of education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under Governor Michael Dukakis.
