“Every once in a while, I stop to wonder how differently our country would look now without a war. Would we be able to afford universal health care? Would we be able to house all our homeless? Would we be able to finance all our children to provide the education they want? Would our wealth be distributed more equally? Would our corporations be less corrupt?
We might have a chance at creating such a world if we elect a new administration, if we learn to sift the news properly and educate ourselves to look at the facts. If we stop having as our goals to be rich, thin and beautiful.
I’ve been reading a book about the life of Alexander Hamilton and his role in the origins of our constitution and the forming of our government. Unbelievable how educated the people were then. Politicians spent much of their time writing tracks that were phrased in language that very few of our populace nowadays would even understand. When did we stop really educating our people?
I still have hope that enough of us will wake up and do something about all of this.” – Dorothy Eppstein, June 9, 2007
