THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

Cindy Judd Hill

March 5, 1926 – March 2, 2019

“I never believed that we would get to the point where the ERA would not be ratified. This is a battle and I have just got to go.” – Cindy on why she went to Illinois to work on passing the ERA

A founding member of the Greater Pittsburgh Area chapter of NOW in 1967 and the South Hills chapter in 1972. Joined the picket against the Pittsburgh Press’ practice of segregated employment ads, lobbied state and federal officials on both the ERA and abortion and spent a six-month unpaid leave in Chicago working to pass the ERA in Illinois. Served as co-president of South Hills NOW in 1986.
