THE VFA PIONEER HISTORIES PROJECT

“I am an activist, I am a warrior, but above all, I am compassionate. I have given myself to the struggle for Black lesbians and lesbians of all colors and oppression everywhere.”

Co-founder, Third World Wimmin Inc. Salsa Soul Sisters collective, formed to provide an inclusive space for lesbians of color, particularly Black and Latina lesbians. Oldest Black lesbian and lesbians of color womanist organization in the United States, 1974–1993; became African Ancestral Lesbians United for Social Change (AALUSC), 1993–2015.
